“Reading
seeks for the sweetness of a blessed life,
meditation
perceives it,
prayer
asks for it,
contemplation
tastes it.”
Guigo II (d. 1188) The
Ladder of Monks
Lectio Divina is also called
“Teresan Prayer” for St. Teresa of Avila,
a spunky Christian mystic of 16th century Spain,
who often used this graced way of praying.
“Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing make you afraid.
All things are passing.
God alone never changes.
Patience gains all things.
If you have God,
You will want for nothing.’
God alone suffices.’
