A Lenten Contemplative Book Study 2024 Living in God: Contemplative Prayer and Contemplative Action by Msgr. Nicholas Amato 5 Tuesdays, February 27-March 26 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Please plan to attend all sessions, if possible, to build community) Fr. Nicholas states at the outset, "If you are looking for a scholarly work, this book may be a bit of a disappointment, but if you want a concrete way of disposing yourself to experiencing God as face-to-face, to have that presence have an impact on your life, then this work may be of assistance." He wrote the book from his own personal journey as a response to a yearning he had as youngster that he was unable to name. The yearning grew and in time, leading contemplative retreats became his fulltime work as a catholic priest. "This book is the fruit of the years in the vineyard of God's dwelling with people who likewise yearn and long to see God's face." We will read prayerfully about 30 pages per week, taking notes, marking up the margins! When we gather in our contemplative setting with some music and quiet listening, we will share what we are learning, what God is showing us. The book will suggest many contemplative practices to try on our own and as a group. We will also learn a method for tracking our actions and over time, learn how God may be moving in our lives, and to where God may be calling us. Led by: The Rev. Catherine Powell, D. Min., Founding Servant Leader, The Anchorage, who earned degrees from the University of Florida, Erskine Theological Seminary and Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP). Her formation also includes the Spiritual Guidance Program of The Shalem Institute, the 30-day Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius as well as training at the Jesuit Center, Wernersville, PA to lead 8-day Ignatian Retreats. She was ordained in 1999 and delights in family, friends, music, learning and nature. Her greatest sense of call is to one-on-one spiritual direction both monthly and during retreats. Her deepest passion is for everyone to know how much they are loved by our holy and gracious God. Click here to learn more about the 2024 Lenten Book Study.
